Dearest readers, I went through several possibilities about what to write about this week. I originally thought of the French existentialist, Jean Paul Sartre’s play, “Huis Clos”, or “No Exit”, for my title. In French “Huis Clos” more or less translates as, “Sealed Chamber” or “Closed Room”.
Thank you for your response. We are doing fine waiting to see whether we have to fly home or will be able to stay on assignment. Are you currently working?
Another fascinating piece, Bruce. Sartre declared in that play that “Hell is other people”, suggesting what a tough job it is to step outside ourselves to see us as others do. We remain stuck in our own consciousness. You, however, manage to make the move into someone else’s world. Like the blend of pop music and philosophy too!
"We are currently in our own hui clos. Will we use this time of confinement to talk ... or ... thinking that everything is fine just the way it has been?" Will we? Thanks for bringing me back to reading. I hope I keep on.
Thanks for putting me on the list, Bruce. I remember well studying French existentialism as an undergrad philosophy major, with some wonderful teachers. Some of those old books are gonna come back off the shelf, cause I’ve finished all my stuff from the local library. Where are you?
More to come I hope. Let's talk this weekend.
